YORK – This past week, the York County commissioners recognized York County emergency communication professionals for their dedication, skill and work ethic.
“I just want to take this opportunity to publicly thank our 911 dispatchers,” said Commissioner Randy Obermier. “A couple of weeks ago was Telecommunicators Week and I failed to acknowledge it at the time. I do believe our thanks to them for this essential service should not be confined to seven short days. Throughout the year, the office is staffed 24 hours a day with professional employees ready to assist with whatever emergency is on the other end of the line. So please, join me in thanking them for being diligent in serving York County.”
Recognized were Director Mindy Gerken; Assistant Director Jeana Due; full-time dispatchers, Jordan Bedient, Valerie Holding, Lakeysha Lutt, Mary Marget, Kelly Miller, Megan Pinney and Kaylie Ruiz; and part-time dispatchers Maria Scamehorn and Tabitha Keith.
“This past weekend, after town lost power, I went down to the 911 center to make sure everything was working fine with the power outage, and it was, it was fine,” Obermier said. “They were in the 911 communications center, using electricity from our generator, answering calls about storm damage and power outages and emergencies. Remember, when we are sleeping and really all of the time, that office is staffed. What they do, they do extremely well and they are very professional.”
The commissioners and the large audience in attendance gave the 911 dispatchers a round of applause and words of appreciation.
