During a three-game stretch last week, York’s 6-foot junior guard Maddie Portwine scored 51 points and bumped up her season average to 13.8 points per game, which now leads the Dukes in scoring for the season. Portwine had 15 points and went 3 of 6 on 3-point shots as York recorded a 13-point 49-36 win over Class A No. 8 North Platte at home on Saturday. On Tuesday, despite a 51-41 loss at Norris, Portwine put up 17 points. In a close win at Fairbury on Friday night, the junior led the way with 19 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field and 2 of 6 from behind the arc. Portwine’s defense has also been a key in the Dukes’ 12-4 record as she had 12 steals last week and is averaging 3.1 per game, which also leads the team.
