YORK – Stephen Scanlon, 32, of Lehi, Utah, has been sentenced to federal prison for conspiring to distribute marijuana.
He was arrested in York County by Nebraska State Patrol troopers, on Interstate 80, after the rental car in which he was riding was stopped for traffic violations.
Troopers said they could smell marijuana and a subsequent search led to the discovery of suitcases containing marijuana debris. They also found a purse containing approximately $90,000 in cash, which they determined to be drug buy money.
Scanlon was initially arraigned in York County District Court, but was later bound over to federal court. The local charges were dropped, because the case was sent to the higher court.
This week, Scanlon was sentenced to 2 ½ years in federal prison. He must also serve four years of supervised release when he leaves custody.
